Ever since I met you, I've watched you change the lives around you. You inspire the people around you to want to be better, from Drifting Pretty, to the Chamber of Commerce and even the teachers at our kids' school. You're inspiring the next generation of kids through your @sachikogoesracing books.

I'm the luckiest guy in the world to watch you become such a positive force in the world and to be able to call you my wife.

I showed my kids the old stomping grounds and introduced them to some friends. They have a genuine interest in my past and drifting! I never wanted to push my passion onto my kids, so it's the most satisfying feeling. I've waited a long time 😂

Even if they don't get into drifting, as long as they learn that it's good to be unique and be passionate about life, I'll be happy.

How it started (2003) vs how it's going

When famed Super Street editor Jonathan Wong publi

When famed Super Street editor Jonathan Wong published an article about the infant American drifting scene in June of 2000, drifting as a sport was widely unknown. In America, there were no sanctioned events and drifting was underground and in the streets. The Internet wasn't like it is today, and information and trends spread much more slowly.

The article featured drift team Slide Squad members Dave Scholz and Mark Hutchinson. The intent was to educate the masses on what drifting was, highlighting Slide Squad and their cars, their style and what inspired them, but it unintentionally brought attention to some of the secret spots where it was happening. Other underground drifters were upset, but drifting was meant to be bigger than an underground sport as you can see today with professional drifting series around the world and blockbuster movies like Fast and the Furious Tokyo Drift.

Being a father is the hardest thing I've ever done

Being a father is the hardest thing I've ever done. Shoot, life is hard enough as it is without kids. Some fathers had poor role models. Some fathers grew up without a father. Some are doing their best by doing what they were shown. Even with a good father, maybe the challenge is to provide their child a better life than what they had.

Happy Father's day to all of the fathers out there, no matter what situation you're in.

To all of us who have fathers, I hope we honor them today by understanding their struggle and knowing that nobody is perfect. At the very least they gave us life and gave us the opportunity to do better in our own lives.

Shout-out to Yasu for taking this photo of me at the 2002 Club4AG event when @runningfree86 and @shinjiminowa came to drift in the USA.

Yasu was an overseas editor for several Japanese automotive magazines. He featured @slidesquaddriftteam in the 90s and he later took a photo of @driftqueen that was the cover of CARBOY in the mid 2000s.

That feeling of constantly checking Kinokiniya to see when the latest car magazine hit the shelves is something that is probably gone forever.

What is the most important thing available to you to help you learn to drift?

For me, it was my friends, especially Andy Yen, who would obsess with me about drifting and then go with me to go try the things we thought we were seeing in videos.

Hiroshi Takahashi aka Kaicho is an AE86/hachiroku drifting legend from Tokyo, Japan. He started drifting in 1989 and is a self-proclaimed 2nd generation drifter.

In this episode, Kaicho gives us a history lesson and describes the drifting scene in Japan in the 80s and 90s, and some of the people who inspired him.

He tells us about joining team RUNNING FREE, and shares some stories about teammate Kouichi Yamashita and team leader Shingo Murao as young men in the early 90s.
